Question Volume Trouble on Cassette Deck?
I have a Fisher FM/AM Cassette Deck that has two separate slides for adjusting volume, however they are having trouble adjusting the volume. The sound is always quiet, however if I change it slowly (by tapping the slides in small increments in the up direction also as I tap in any direction there is a quick sound of distortion then goes away) I usually find a volume that works and the sound comes out fine (by then I've been tapping enough that the volume is at a high setting); this proves to be difficult in making both speakers have a matching volume and limits me to only one volume setting which is a little loud. A cause and solution for these problems would greatly be appreciated, thank you.
Best Answer The older type volume switches, or variable resistors, potentiometers, etc. you describe many times accumulate dust and become fuzzy in adjustment. What has always worked for me is to go get a spray electronics cleaner (look for a type that you can use with equipment on if possible to prevent shorting, if you cant find one, make sure it is unplugged until completely dry!), then spray the cleaner while moving the slides to remove the dust/dirt accumulation.
