A BIT OF HISTORY ABOUT TRANSISTOR RADIOS OF THE PAST TRANSISTOR RADIOS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A PASSION AS WELL AS A HOBBY OF MINE SINCE I WAS ABOUT 8 YRS OLD. I RECEIVED MY FIRST POCKET TRANSISTOR RADIO AT CHRISTMAS THAT YEAR. I REMEMBER THE VERY FIRST 2 SONGS I HEARD ON THAT SMALL WIRELESS WONDER. WERE "DOWN IN THE BOON DOCS" AND "RED RUBBER BALL". I REMEMMBER MANY NIGHTS LYING IN BED TUNING IN ALL THOSE LONG DISTANCE STATIONS. I EVEN KEPT A LOG BOOK OF FAR AWAY STATIONS I HAD TUNED IN.THOSE WERE THE DAYS!! I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED THE AM RADIO AND I STILL TUNE IN AS MANY DISTANCE STATIONS AS I CAN. I HOPE TO PRESERVE AS MANY OF THESE SMALL RADIOS AS I CAN. ITS NOT JUST A HOBBY BUT AS I MENTIONED BEFORE ITS A PASSION.. THE HISTORY OF THE FIRST TRANSISTOR RADIOS The first transistor radio was a joint effort between the Regency Division of Industrial Development Engineering Associates and Texas Instruments. Texas Instruments knew that it needed to find a fun product that would catch the nation's attention. They thought a small pocket sized radio would be just the thing to make aa big splash. Texas Instruments built the transistors and ...

Question Where can I locate an original or adaptable ac power cord for a Sony model CRF 330k vintage am/fm/sw radio?
This part was discontinued by Sony, as the model CRF 330k radio was produced for only a short time - 1978-80 - over 30 years ago. The power cord's part number is 15550400. I will be happy to email an image of the connection on the radio end, if someone thinks they have something that could work. I look forward to hearing from someone. Thanks,Jerry Several answers have suggested Radio Shack, etc.; but the connector appears to be a unique design of attachment that doesn't seem to be available in "off the shelf" replacement power cords. My best guess is that it would be a "vintage" type of plug-in cord that matches my power input plug.
Best Answer If it is just a cord, take it to Radio Shack or a similar store. They will have an acceptable replacement.

Question How Can I Fix My Cassette Player?
I have a vintage 80's Sony Walkman Radio/Cassette Player...it works but when I decided to drag it out the other day, I placed a tape in, pressed play, but the music is like in slow mode (sounds like its in slow motion). :/ To me, it seems like its not spinning the tape fast enough. Could something be caught inside of it allowing it to not spin the tape fast enough? I tried several tapes, and the batteries are brand new.
Best Answer Probably. Maybe try cleaning the heads with a Q-tip or probably even try shaking the walkman around to check if there are any loose parts.

Question How to wire an iPod to a vintage "Ghetto Blaster"?
Is there a way to modify a vintage style "Ghetto Blaster" to play an ipod? It is just for a party so it doesn't have to be pretty or even permanent. Thanks! Example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sanyo-Boombox-Ghettoblaster-VINTAGE-RADIO-WORKS-/190487330513?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c59edfed1
Best Answer Well if this Ghetto Blaster has a pair of RCA import ports on the rear, then you can use a stereo mini to RCA breakout cable. This is the best way to go and perhaps the cheapest and most reliable. If not, then you can use a stereo mini to cassette adapter, but the door might not close without a tiny notch for the wire. If this machine is used, likely the cassette heads are worn anyway and you'll get lousy quality, more than normal with cassette adapters. Works most times. Another method would be to get a iPod FM transmitter and tune the stereo receiver to accept the FM signal. This is problematic too, especially in cars when you travel and the stations change and crowd out your FM transmitter. Set up is a hassle and unreliable. FM transmitter costs a little money.

Question My vintage console stereo 1960s works great but the radio has a humming sound when it is on. How do I fix it?
The humming sound goes on when I turn on the radio. If I turn the volume up, you eventually won't hear the hum, however the volume is so loud at this point that you can barely stand it. It is a 1960s RCA console stero with an AM FM radio. Please tell me what to do to stop the hum. This stereo is real cool looking and I want to be able to use it everyday without the hum! Oh by the way, this old type of stereo has the old fashioned tubes in it. It looks like all the tubes do work and light up? The capacitors are the things that look like they are wrapped in brown cardboard? How do I know if they are bad. Glass tubes are easy to see if the light up or not but how do you tell with capacitors?
Best Answer The best way to stop it from humming is to teach it the lyrics. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Question PC speakers in my home stereo?
Good morning, all... I was wondering if anyone could tell me this: can i simply detach my PC speakers from my PC and use them as additional speakers on my home audio system? I see that they sell adapters that could connect my pc speakers to the receiver, but the guy at radio shack said my receiver would blow out the speakers. Is he right? My audio receiver is a 1994 Technics vintage with RCA inputs/outputs for the components (VCR, DVD, CD Player) and regular wire inputs for the speakers. If the PC speakers can be used on the receiver, would I use the component (RCA) outs, or the terminals made specifically for speakers? Also my PC speakers are assembled like one unit, i.e., speaker-to-speaker-to-subwoofer. Does this complicate matters? Would I need to break this up? Thanks for your help! Ed Good morning, all... Best Answer At the cost of satellites and such, the amount of money you'll be spending on adapters, new cables, time, you'd probably be better off just dropping the coin on proper speakers, and using splitters... Those little computer speakers aren't meant to handle anything in the realm outside of 3-5 watts... the sub, as mentioned above, is typically powered anyways. This is just a mess... Why bother? Your PC speakers likely aren't going to sound that great anyways. Not being matched with the remainder of the system, you'll end up with staging issues... Without knowing the model of the existing PC speakers, it's hard to say whether you need to split them... most of them have the matrix prosessor built into the sub box. So that would probably be a yes. Now you're getting into soldering new ends on your speakers. And back to a bigger mess. Don't get me wrong, where there's a will there's a way... I just don't equate the time and money to the conversion, being worth the performance gain.
