Just a simple demo of my Kenwood KR-710 receiver, circa 1981, and Dynaco 208 speakers (not really "true" Dynacos; they were made by a company called ESS, which bought out the Dynaco name in the '80s and used it on some of their products). Of course the camera's microphone does not reproduce the low bass frequencies, but this setup does provide nice room-filling sound, with a pleasant tonal balance. Kenwood KR-710: 28 watts per channel RMS into 8 ohms Dynaco 208 speakers: 8-inch woofers, piezo horn tweeters
Vintage loudspeakers are good. Especially if your seeking for superior efficiency loudspeakers, complete array loudspeakers, or Alnico speaker systems. They could be cumbersome, massive, and hard to transfer, nonetheless they will make up for it after you listen on the superior good quality tape they make use of. Also, remember to check out on what kind of harm the classic unit has just before casting your bid. Kenwood Horn question of the day
Question can i hook up two power horn speakers and a 10 inch sub on my amplifier?
ok so i have two 100 watt PA speakers like this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103339 and i would like to install them on my amp. i also have a 10 inch sub that i want to install on the same amp. as well http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-SWR1043D-SWR-1043D-Type-R-Subwoofer/dp/B003F7N93K/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1289855628&sr=1-12 This is my amp. http://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KAC-7204-1000-Watt-Bridgeable-Amplifier/dp/B0014E6KGE/ref=sr_1_46?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1289853368&sr=1-46 so is it possible????
Best Answer No, that won't work. The sub you have is DVC 4 ohm and running on a 2-channel amp that'll pull 8 ohms, which your amp isn't even rated for. If you use those PA speakers you will ruin them. The PA speakers aren't made for bass, so when you put the bass signal to them it'll probably fry the voice coil pretty quick. It just wouldn't be good.

A silly name for a good mid-'90s boombox with shortwave band! Its FM tuner is also excellent, with reception that rivals expensive component tuners. It has a 120/240V voltage selector switch, and the speakers are detachable. Two strange things are that the headphone jack is on the back, and there is no FM Stereo indicator light.

Question A speaker's midrange driver?
I have a pair of Jensen JP-1500 speakers, which are designed like DJ/PA cabinets and use horn-type midrange drivers. The right speaker has developed somewhat a rattle when playing at average volumes. I'm thinking that the screw-on-type midrange driver has loosened (over the last four years) from the horn. Would I be correct? Can the midrange driver be re-tightened to the horn, if I removed the horn from the cabinet? Thanks for any answer(s).
Best Answer Yes, this can be done quite easily and might just be your problem. If that doesn't work, then the driver itself may be faulty. If the latter is the case, I recommend finding a replacement at a Pro audio store or one like Parts Express. NOTE: make sure you unplug the speaker from your amplifier before you do any disassembling of the loudspeaker, and make sure your driver that your working on is well connected and properly connected before you connect up your amplifier again to avoid any serious damage to your speaker or amplifier. _ _ _ _ _

Here's the original message I got from Brady www.youtube.com Hey Brian, You might remember that I mentioned some time ago, that a good upgrade for your JRX115 cabs, would be to replace the compression driver with a Selenium D210Ti. They happen to be on sale now, as they are moving to a new 2008 model. They are selling for each, and they are a drop in for your JRX115 cabs. www.partsexpress.com I know your JRX115 cabs already sound good, but these will make them sound better, so I am just passing this tip along. Why? For a couple of reasons. 1) Your JRX cabs have a frequency response of 50Hz -12.5KHz +/- 3dB. The JRX115 cabs have always been known to have really good bottom end for a single 15" cab, but a little short on the top end. Dropping these in will change that to 50Hz - 20KHz +/- 3dB, giving you a LOT better top end, with less power to get it there. 2) The Selenium D210Ti is a better, cleaner sounding compression driver than the stock JBL compression driver in the JRX series as well. The JBL higher end compression drivers are a different story, but then they cost more than your speaker cabs & definitely mine...hehe (I would love to have some though :) Anyway, I've got two of these on their way to me now. They are a nice upgrade for my cabs as well, at only a piece. I do know your JRX115 cabs sound great as is, but thought I'd pass along the tip for a nice upgrade if you are interested :) I'll be doing a vid when I get mine in. Hey, I've been getting a few ...

Try to remember that there are actually 3 major details to search for as far as audio gear, and these are array, strength, and distortion. Vintage audio gear is renowned for its dynamic array, high quality energy, and lack of distortion. The truth is, a lot of people imagine the worst distortion takes place in digital sort on a CD. This is because vinyl and mediums like it conceal the flaws inside a spherical about way covering them with richness and fullness of tone alternatively of uncooked digital edgy chaos.

Vintage audio speakers are good. Particularly if your browsing for significant efficiency loudspeakers, entire array speakers, or Alnico speakers. Be sure you verify the audio speakers in doing work affliction, simply because they tend to be pretty hard to restore. If your getting classic I'd not worry about cabinet blemishes as they should not influence sound. Several point out that turntables deliver the most effective representation of music. Beneficial turntables and records will genuinely give back a lot more than you devote on them if you recognize terrific sound. You should snatch these up if you find them in very good issue. In the event you can get your arms on them, reel to reel players and tape are incredible. Makes to seem for are Teac, Pioneer and Sony. They might be cumbersome, big, and tough to transfer, however they will make up for it while you listen on the large top quality tape they make the most of. Also, bear in mind to test on what sort of damage the vintage unit has ahead of casting your bid. Bear in mind that the unit in question might be 30 several years old, so forget concerning the company having that which you have to correct it up! You'll be able to acquire some things like lights and knobs from on the internet dealers, however , you can count on to pay out a quite penny occasionally through $10 to get a single knob! Also bear in mind that details like a defeat up scenario are difficult to correct you can, however, replace hardwood instances rather very easily, as though you treatment to commit the money you are able to have a single customized developed. And always try to remember to examine costs. Don’t get used benefit of by paying over the merchandise is worth! Vintage equipment isn't rare ample to break the lender on, except if you just arrive across a thing tremendous rare. So, workout superior judgment, and don’t dump dollars into something which just isn't well worth it.
Altec Lansing Horn question of the day
Question Altec Lansing A7, A5, 816??? What would be the best?
I hope somebody out there can offer a good opinion on what kind of speaker cabinets I should use for my vintage speakers. What I have here are some Altec Lansing 416 16 ohm LF’s, 511B Horns with 806A 16 ohm drivers and I believe N500 crossovers. I’ll be using them in a 40X80 ft shop at approximately 20 to 25 ft apart. I plan to drive them with a HH Scott 222C Amp (I have a Marantz 2535 but it might be a bit much?). As you well know these components came out of some A7 cabinets originally, water damage got to them and they were too far gone, however everything else is in pristine condition and ohm out correct. My woodworking skills are fairly good and I was wondering what kind of cabinet would be a good choice, that being said I would like to do something kind of original, should I go back to the A7 style? Maybe A5 style? What about the 816’s, this box is a good size for me. Possible something else much better? As I said before these are going in a shop (man cave situation) and will probably be painted, thinking machine gray here, no need to varnish. The weight is not an issue so material used can be whatever, would like the horns kept external for bragging rights. Just to let everyone know here I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous…. Thanks in advance

Best Answer That is a good speaker set and expensive too. If you are not going for surround setup, that is already a very good system to enjoy music as well as movies.
