Question The tweeter and midrange speakers are not working on one of my Akai Speakers?
Okay, i just recently set up my vintage Akai speakers that have a mid range tweeter and a subwoofer built in with a old receiver I found. But when i went to turn em on, one of the speakers was only playing sound through the subwoofer. But the other one is completely fine. They were just working 4 or so months ago as well. And the part that stumps me the most is when i went to adjust the little knobs for the mid and high range speakers. They were all like, locked and i had to almost force them to move. Any input would be great. Theyre really nice sounding speakers and i just fixed the surrounds on them so i would like to get them working.

Best Answer So your speakers have some built in trims on them? And they don't work? You could try contact cleaner, maybe. Perhaps the high freq section is blown on one channel. That can happen. Try asking this in a DIY speaker forum, such as over at avsforum.com. There's people more experienced in speakers that I am in those places.

Question Requesting information about dedicated tweeters (hooking them up and specifications)?
Hi all, I've recently gotten hold of some vintage Hepta tweeters, which I've traced down to be in Hepta's Tweety product line. I have found a picture at http://www.hepta.nl/historie/1973-tweety-type-1.jpg Hepta seems to be a Dutch brand, and their site is in Dutch too. I am Dutch myself, but I cannot find any specific specifications about these tweeters, and there is nothing apart from the logo and some sort of radial switch on the back. These tweeters seem solidly built with a very heavy wooden cabinet (for the size), and I've found several sources saying they sound pretty good too. I want to hook them up, but I have no idea how - directly hooking them up to an amplifier just doesn't feel like a good idea to me, although I am a newbie at anything HiFi. I currently have two amplifiers working together, an Akai AM-2450 and a JVC A-X3. The JVC A-X3 is being used to drive 4 large three-way Philips 489 8 ohm (rear) speakers. The Akai is connected (daisy-chained) to the headphone output of the JVC, and in turn drives 2 4 ohm front speakers, and 2 8 ohm rear speakers (I might be overloading it, but it still does well at high volume without overheating or audibly clipping). Everything is set up so that I have stereo sound over 4 left and 4 right speakers, with a lot of sound pressure across the small room it's set up in (which I really like). I have heard that tweeters need to be connected to the same outputs that another pair of speakers use, but have not gotten it confirmed yet. Would it be possible to hook these things up to the outputs on the Akai AM-2450 that also drive the front 4 ohm speakers? The speakers on the ol' Akai amplifier are a bit low in highs, so I think this would add some more detail to the overall sound (which is already pretty good at the moment, to my ears). Also, one final question... There are these odd radial switches on the back of the tweeters - the left end says -o, the right end says o+, where o is a small filled circle. The switches are set to the top position, which says nothing, and will only turn 90 degrees right properly. What are these things, and do I need to do anything with them? Keep in mind that I am not very experienced with these audio things (I build and repair computers, but not audio devices), but I am willing to learn. I also have a 30w small-tip soldering iron, if need be, though I am rather clumsy with it. Thanks in advance for any advice that I can get! These tweeters still seem to be working, by the way. I tested them with a low power battery and got a bit of crackling out of them, which I usually consider a good sign. Thanks, and you too! :) So where could I get these crossovers, and how expensive would a simple one that's up for this task be?

Best Answer With my experience, I would use a separate amplifier and an Electronic Crossover. The Electronic Crossover gets it's signal from a low level source, such as the input of your front speaker's amplifier inputs. The Tweeters will not require a high power amplifier to drive them as you see fit. I don't know if these tweets that you have employ an internal crossover network. That may be what the knobs on the back side adjust. I would still use an electronic crossover to insure that only good clean highs reach these speakers. I wish you good listening and Happy Holidays!

Question How To Find The Right Speakers For My Reviver?
So I have this vintage Technics SA-5270 from 1977. But no speakers. I have a turntable though. There are four pairs of the red and black things (which i guess the speakers wires go in). I heard to you need to check the number of channels to get the right speakers, i dont know. What type of speakers is the right type to get. Im clueless. the 4 pairs of black and red things dont include the sub-woofers

Best Answer You are correct. That is where the speakers connect to the amp. I answered a similar question a few weeks ago so I quote myself: "...Here is what you should really be concerned about in replacing your speaker, in order from most to least important. 1)How they sound, TO YOU! If you like them and can afford them, buy them. If they sound like crap to you, then they are crap, no matter what the salesman says or how much they cost. 2)Will the speaker cable ends work with my amp? You may find that an adapter or converter is required to make the new speaker work with your old amp. Try and look at the old speaker cable ends and get one similar. If your are throwing the old ones away, cut the end off and take it to the store with you so that you can confirm that everything will connect together when you get home. 3)Wattage between your amp and the new speakers is similar. This can be found in the owners manual or even embossed somewhere on the amp. It is an electrical quantity used to indicate the amount of load (or volume, in simple terms) that the speaker/amp working together can produce. For example, if you know your amp is 100 watts per channel then get 100 watt(or greater) speaker. NOTE: Higher wattage does not equal better quality or louder sound. If pressured by a store clerk, resort to rule one above. 4)Impedance should be equal. Impedance is an electrical quantity, and is an indicator of the type of load the amp needs to operate properly. This is usually found in the owners manual, but not always. This can be safely ignored as long as you don't overdrive (operate the speakers and amp at high volumes when the sound starts to distort) them. Most modern, better quality (e.g. Not Hong Kong cheap junk) can handle a wide range of impedance so don't loose too much sleep over this." Hope this helped.
