Installed a new hard drive. Need to find and install the correct driver to get sound to work. Windows start-up disc has a yamaha driver on it, system keeps looking for the correct driver for this altec acs340 speaker system. How can I find the right driver and download it?

Best Answer You need to find out what sound card, or what integrated sound platform your computer is using, then go to the manufacturers, or your system builders website and download the driver. You can look in System properties (device manager) and click on Sound and game controllers, or download a program like Sisoft's Sandra, which will name each and every part of your motherboard and system for you, helping you determine what you have installed, and give you a clue what company to target for a download. The speaker system itself does not need a driver. You could hook them up to an ipod and they should work.

Best Answer Both, you need a sound card that is capable of surround sound and you need the proper soft wear...usually sound cards are not free, you have to buy therm and install them, the soft wear may be just a free download or it may come with the sound card...

Question Cerwin Vega 12 in Driver Surround Rip?
I have a Cerwin Vega 12 inch stereo speaker set up (1 tweeter, 1 mid range and 1 12" woofer per speaker). I was playing some songs with heavy bass and the I realized that the right speaker made a weird sound when playing bass. I looked to find that the surround has a rip in it, I played music while holding the ripped section (the ripped section is ripped in to a square shape and it sticks out) and it sounded fine, when I let go the buzzing starts again. The speakers are old and the surround is slightly water damaged but it's not so bad that it needs a whole new surround. Any way to fix it with out having to remove the driver and replace the surround completely?
