I know there are plenty of men and women who're not significantly aware of the eight-track. So to give you a fast guide I'll let you know that the eight-track tape by no means ended. It had 4 programs but it didn't have two sides like a document. Rather, the tape was an limitless loop - each and every finish in the tape was joined collectively by a metal foil splice. As that metal foil moved above a sensor within the eight-track device, the plan would instantly swap towards the subsequent. The 4 applications of an eight-track tape had been normally eleven minutes in size to get a complete time of 46 minutes. Extended durations grew to become offered as blank media.

Inventing the eight-track Cartridge

Limitless loop tape cartridges had been in use due to the fact they had been invented in 1952 by Bernard Cousino. A number of many years and also a couple of enhancements afterwards, an entrepreneur named Earl Muntz marketed what he named the "Stereo-Pak" (a.k.a. 4-track cartridge). This was his edition with the limitless loop cartridge for car stereo devices. Invoice Lear adopted this up by doubling the amount of tracks around the tape, and dubbed it the "Stereo 8" which was far more regularly named the eight-track tape.

For a number of many years, there was a format war among the eight-track and 4-track cartridges. Stereo-Paks provided a little better sound good quality mainly because the tapes only had 4 tracks rather than 8 on exactly the same quantity of tape. The four-track also mimicked the authentic new music launch format (lengthy actively playing information) superior, even though the eight-track generally needed to hold the perform checklist reorganized to keep away from lengthy silences among songs. Also to stay clear of silence, often additional tracks or instrument solos had been extra among songs. Some cartridges even had a tune repeated elsewhere around the tape. Even even worse although, songs had been in some cases damaged into two components. Though listening to a melody, about halfway by means of, you'd listen to the tune fade out, then the "ka-chunk" sound of your participant switching applications, after which the tune fading in after once again to complete its duration.

Try to remember that you will discover three important items to appear for so far as audio machines, and individuals are selection, electrical power, and distortion. Vintage audio equipment is renowned for its dynamic selection, high quality ability, and lack of distortion. In truth, many individuals think which the worst distortion happens in digital sort on a CD. This is because vinyl and mediums like it conceal the flaws inside a spherical about way covering these with richness and fullness of tone as an alternative of uncooked digital edgy chaos.

Vintage speaker systems are wonderful. Especially if your seeking for significant efficiency speaker systems, complete variety speakers, or Alnico speakers. Be sure to confirm the loudspeakers in doing work affliction, because they are frequently extremely difficult to fix. When your obtaining classic I'd not be concerned about cabinet blemishes because they should not influence audio.

Numerous say that turntables provide the most beneficial representation of audio. Great turntables and records will genuinely give back again a lot more than you expend on them for those who appreciate good sound. You should snatch these up if you discover them in good condition.

In case you can get your hands on them, reel to reel players and tape are remarkable. Makes to look for are Teac, Pioneer and Sony. They might be cumbersome, significant, and difficult to move, nonetheless they will make up for it while you hear to the substantial excellent tape they utilize.

Also, try to remember to examine on what kind of damage the vintage unit has just before casting your bid. Bear in mind that the unit in problem is probably 30 several years outdated, so neglect with regards to the maker obtaining what you ought to correct it up! It is possible to obtain some issues like lights and knobs from on the internet dealers, however , you can expect to fork out a rather penny occasionally more than $10 for a single knob! Also recall that things like a beat up scenario are tough to resolve it is possible to, however, substitute hardwood scenarios pretty quickly, as though you care to devote the cash you can have a person custom developed.

And generally bear in mind to look at selling prices. Don’t get taken benefit of by having to pay a lot more than the item is worth! Classic gear is just not unusual plenty of to interrupt the bank on, except you simply arrive across a little something super rare. So, work out great judgment, and don’t dump money into something which is just not well worth it.

Question I have a windows 98 system . My altec lansing acs340 speakers don't work. How do I install the right driver?
Installed a new hard drive. Need to find and install the correct driver to get sound to work. Windows start-up disc has a yamaha driver on it, system keeps looking for the correct driver for this altec acs340 speaker system. How can I find the right driver and download it?

Best Answer You need to find out what sound card, or what integrated sound platform your computer is using, then go to the manufacturers, or your system builders website and download the driver. You can look in System properties (device manager) and click on Sound and game controllers, or download a program like Sisoft's Sandra, which will name each and every part of your motherboard and system for you, helping you determine what you have installed, and give you a clue what company to target for a download. The speaker system itself does not need a driver. You could hook them up to an ipod and they should work.

Best Answer Both, you need a sound card that is capable of surround sound and you need the proper soft wear...usually sound cards are not free, you have to buy therm and install them, the soft wear may be just a free download or it may come with the sound card...

Bear in mind that you will find 3 main factors to seem for so far as audio machines, and these are collection, energy, and distortion. Classic sound equipment is renowned for its dynamic range, high quality energy, and lack of distortion. In truth, many individuals imagine that the worst distortion occurs in digital sort on the CD. This is because vinyl and mediums like it cover the flaws in a very spherical about way covering them with richness and fullness of tone as a substitute of raw digital edgy chaos.

Sweep test of a 1930s vintage Western Electric 555 driver. In excellent audio condition. My camera does not have very good audio above 4kHz. The driver was much stronger above 4kHz to 15kHz than the video shows.

Classic speakers are terrific. Particularly if your browsing for high efficiency speaker systems, full array audio speakers, or Alnico speakers. Be sure you affirm that the loudspeakers in functioning issue, since they are often extremely difficult to repair. Should your obtaining classic I might not worry about cabinet blemishes because they should not impact audio.

Several claim that turntables give the top representation of music. Excellent turntables and records will truly give back over you shell out on them if you recognize wonderful sound. It's best to grab these up for those who locate them in beneficial problem.

In the event you can get your fingers on them, reel to reel players and tape are amazing. Manufacturers to glimpse for are Teac, Pioneer and Sony. They could be cumbersome, huge, and difficult to move, but they will make up for it once you listen on the large high quality tape they utilize.

Also, bear in mind to check out on what sort of hurt the classic unit has just before casting your bid. Don't forget that the unit in concern might be 30 years outdated, so neglect concerning the maker possessing that which you ought to correct it up! You may obtain some factors like lights and knobs from on the web dealers, however you can count on to shell out a fairly penny from time to time around $10 for any single knob! Also try to remember that factors like a beat up circumstance are hard to resolve you may, nevertheless, change hardwood scenarios rather easily, as though you care to spend the cash you are able to have a person custom made constructed.

And often keep in mind to look at prices. Don’t get used benefit of by spending in excess of the item is value! Vintage equipment is not rare ample to break the bank on, except if you simply come across anything tremendous uncommon. So, exercising great judgment, and don’t dump income into something which is not really well worth it.

Western Electric Driver question of the day

Question should Obama step down and let MAG take over?
JBL is an American audio electronics company currently owned by Harman International. It was founded in 1946 by James Bullough Lansing. Their primary products are loudspeakers and associated electronics. There are two independent divisions within the company — JBL Consumer and JBL Professional. The former produces audio equipment for the home market while the latter produces professional equipment for the studio, installed sound, tour sound, portable sound (production and DJ), and cinema markets.

[edit] History
James B. Lansing founded JBL the year after leaving Altec Lansing as their Vice President of Engineering in 1945. The company was first called Lansing Sound, Incorporated, and dated from 1 October 1946 and then changed its name to James B. Lansing Sound. The first products model D101 15-inch loudspeaker and D175 The high frequency driver. The D175 remained in the JBL catalog through the 1970s. Both of these were near copies of Altec Lansing products. First original product was the D130, a 15-inch transducer for which a variant would remain in production for the next 55 years. The D130 featured a 4-inch flat ribbon wire voice coil and Alnico V magnet. Two other products were the 12-inch D131 and 8-inch D208 cone drivers.

The Marquardt Corporation gave the company early manufacturing space and a modest investment. William H. Thomas, the treasurer of Marquardt Corporation, represented Marquardt on Lansing's Board of Directors. In 1948 Marquardt took over operation of the JBL. In 1949 Marquardt was purchased by General Tire Company. The new company was not interested in the loudspeaker business and severed ties with Mr. Lansing. The company was reincorporated as James B. Lansing, Incorporated, and moved to its first private location on 2439 Fletcher Drive, Los Angeles.

A key to JBL's early development was Mr. Lansing's close business relationship with its primary supplier of Alnico V magnetic material, Robert Arnold of Arnold Engineering. Arnold Engineering extended favorable terms and deep credit to Mr. Lansing. Robert Arnold saw JBL as an opportunity to sell Alnico V magnetic material into a new market.

James Lansing was noted as an innovative engineer, but a poor businessman. For the next 3 years Mr. Lansing struggled to pay invoices and ship product. As a result of deteriorating business conditions and personal issues, he took his own life on September 4, 1949. The company then passed into the hands of Bill Thomas, JBL's then vice-president. Mr. Lansing had taken out a ,000 life insurance policy naming the company as the beneficiary. That allowed Mr. Thomas to continue the company after Mr. Lansing's death. Soon after, Mr. Thomas purchased Mrs. Lansing's one-third interest in the company and became the sole owner of the company. Mr. Thomas was responsible for revitalizing the company and spearheading a remarkable period of growth for the two decades following the founding of JBL[1].

Early products included the model 375 high frequency driver and the 075 UHF (Ultra High Frequency) ring radiator driver. The ring radiator drivers are also known as "JBL bullets" because of their distinctive shape. The 375 was a re-invention of the Western Electric 594 driver but with a Alnico V magnet and a 4-inch voice coil. The 375 shared the same basic magnet structure as the D-130 woofer. JBL engineers Ed May and Bart Locanthi created these designs.[2]

Two products from that era, the Hartsfield and the Paragon, continue to be highly desired on the collectors market.

In 1955 the brand name JBL was introduced to resolve ongoing disputes with Altec Lansing Corporation. The company name "James B. Lansing Sound, Incorporated" was retained, but the logo name was changed to JBL with the distinctive exclamation point logo.[3]

The JBL 4320 series studio monitor was introduced through Capitol Records in Hollywood and became the standard monitor worldwide for its parent company, EMI. JBL's introduction to rock and roll music came via the adoption of the D130 loudspeaker by Leo Fender's Fender Guitar company as the ideal driver for electric guitars.

In 1969, Bill Thomas sold JBL to the Jervis Corporation (later renamed Harman International) headed by Dr. Sidney Harman. The 1970s saw JBL become a household brand, starting with the famous L-100, which was the best-selling loudspeaker model of any company to that date. The 1970s also saw a major JBL expansion in the professional audio field from their studio monitors. By the end of the decade recording studios in the United States used more JBL monitors than all other brands combined. The JBL L-100 and 4310 control monitors were noteworthy, popular home speakers. In the 1980's the L-100, 4312 and others were updated with aquaplas-laminated midrange and woofer drivers, and a titanium-deposited tweeter diaphragm, the new designations being the L-80T, L-100T, L-120T and the flagship L-250ti.

Try to remember that you can find a few main details to glimpse for as far as audio products, and people are variety, energy, and distortion. Classic sound recording equipment is famous for its dynamic assortment, quality electricity, and lack of distortion. In fact, many individuals believe the worst distortion happens in digital sort on a CD. It is because vinyl and mediums like it hide the flaws inside of a spherical about way covering them with richness and fullness of tone alternatively of uncooked digital edgy chaos.

Got this 4 CV comp real cheap....from a Dual Spruce Moose or DSM200 cabs built around late 80's. 2x2" driver on each side and 1" at the bottom..Not a very sweet driver, from what i've been reading they were cross from 250 to 3.5khz and probably the 1" take over from 3.5khz...Its more of a mid driver rather than a tweeter I would say. Shame I never had a chance to hear the cabs itself....but been told that it was very loud.. Would be nice if anyone can give me more info about this driver/cabs as theirs really not much about them off the internet. Did email Cerwin Vega directly but with no reply :-(

Classic speakers are good. Especially if your searching for higher performance speakers, entire range speaker systems, or Alnico speaker systems. Ensure you validate that the speakers in working issue, since they are usually quite tough to restore. Should your getting classic I might not be concerned about cabinet blemishes as they should not impact audio.

A lot of declare that record players present the most effective representation of new music. Excellent record players and information will absolutely give again a lot more than you expend on them should you appreciate wonderful sound. It's best to grab these up if you discover them in beneficial condition.

In the event you can get your fingers on them, reel to reel people and tape are amazing. Manufacturers to seem for are Teac, Pioneer and Sony. They could be cumbersome, big, and difficult to move, but they will make up for it if you listen to your significant excellent tape they make use of.

Also, bear in mind to test on what sort of damage the vintage unit has ahead of casting your bid. Recall that the unit in issue might be 30 decades old, so neglect with regards to the producer acquiring that which you need to correct it up! You'll be able to acquire some details like lights and knobs from on the web dealers, but you can be expecting to fork out a pretty penny occasionally through $10 for your single knob! Also try to remember that items like a beat up situation are difficult to fix you could, nonetheless, swap hardwood circumstances really effortlessly, as if you treatment to expend the money you are able to have an individual custom made created.

And always bear in mind to examine selling prices. Don’t get used gain of by having to pay a lot more than the merchandise is worthy of! Vintage gear is not really rare adequate to interrupt the bank on, unless you just come across one thing super unusual. So, exercise beneficial judgment, and don’t dump income into something that is not value it.

Question Cerwin Vega 12 in Driver Surround Rip?
I have a Cerwin Vega 12 inch stereo speaker set up (1 tweeter, 1 mid range and 1 12" woofer per speaker). I was playing some songs with heavy bass and the I realized that the right speaker made a weird sound when playing bass. I looked to find that the surround has a rip in it, I played music while holding the ripped section (the ripped section is ripped in to a square shape and it sticks out) and it sounded fine, when I let go the buzzing starts again. The speakers are old and the surround is slightly water damaged but it's not so bad that it needs a whole new surround. Any way to fix it with out having to remove the driver and replace the surround completely?

Best Answer You can repair it but I find it is not worth the hassle - you can get replacement 12 woofers from cerwin vega or partsexpress.com:

I would do both speakers myself.

Bear in mind that you will find a few main details to look for as far as audio tools, and all those are array, strength, and distortion. Vintage audio equipment is well-known for its dynamic variety, top quality strength, and lack of distortion. The truth is, a lot of people imagine that the worst distortion happens in digital sort on a CD. This is because vinyl and mediums like it conceal the flaws in a round about way covering them with richness and fullness of tone as a substitute of uncooked digital edgy chaos.
Vintage speakers are excellent. Especially if your seeking for significant performance loudspeakers, total array loudspeakers, or Alnico loudspeakers. Make sure you validate that the audio speakers in operating issue, given that they tend to be really challenging to repair. In case your buying classic I'd not worry about cabinet blemishes as they shouldn't influence sound.

Lots of claim that record players supply the most beneficial representation of audio. Beneficial record players and documents will definitely give back more than you invest on them if you enjoy good sound. It's best to snatch these up should you come across them in beneficial situation.

Should you can get your arms on them, reel to reel people and tape are astounding. Manufacturers to appear for are Teac, Pioneer and Sony. They may be cumbersome, massive, and tough to transfer, nevertheless they will make up for it once you listen to your higher high quality tape they make use of.

Also, bear in mind to check out on what type of damage the classic unit has just before casting your bid. Recall the unit in issue might be 30 a long time outdated, so neglect about the company owning what you really need to repair it up! You are able to get some items like lights and knobs from on the web dealers, however you can be expecting to shell out a pretty penny sometimes above $10 for the single knob! Also try to remember that factors like a defeat up scenario are hard to fix you could, having said that, swap hardwood situations very quickly, as though you treatment to spend the money it is possible to have a single customized designed.

And constantly keep in mind to check out prices. Don’t get taken edge of by spending a lot more than the merchandise is value! Vintage equipment is not really rare sufficient to break the lender on, except you just come across anything super rare. So, work out beneficial judgment, and don’t dump cash into something that just isn't worthy of it.
