Tube amp reviews
RadicalReason asked:

Ive seen the new sample 600 of cushion shock. It is a very basic tube amps with a speaker from 5 watts (lol!) Ive seen it that price and deps ata very good brand that has no tone controls of any review date has the puff up to the sound. Gradica my sparkly clean - Gilmourish. My question is - 5 watts will be enough for a small room / apartment. I do not wana to Jola with it. Currently I have a cushion shock from 30 watt semi-conductor and I can barely play one number above the 2-3 because of the volume + loundness. This small 5 watt amps is right? will have the "dynamics" thumpy; of my 30 watt semi-conductor but with shimmery cleans? or storcerà too (it goe up to number 12) Any advice would be GREAT. The identification Gradica particularly hear from 600 owners themselves. Notes to the'50s and boutiques also seems like a perfect amps up the price and the tone. On the sound is just my main concern. BTW i use a multi fx to shape the bottom half and triple and other FX Cheers.

  1. Considering that most touring musicians use similar amps for practicing, I would surmise that this would be fine. As an owner of a Fender Champ 25, among others, I can tell you that you will get out of it most of what you want. Five amps is PLENTY for a small room; you won’t be able to “crank it up” too far – tube amps are like that. As far as the “oomph,” that has more to do with speaker size and power ratings than mere output alone. You will generally get more loudness from solid state, but true tone comes from tube amplifiers, that’s why touring pros use tubes. By using outside effects for the tone control, you should be able to dial in the tone you want, but beware; tube amps, regardless of output, are addicting. Happy Trails.

  2. Going tube huh?… well that’s you spoilt forever man. Tube amps, decent ones at least are far more musical and harmonic than solid state. Fender champs are awesome. They record real well and are SO much louder than you would expect. Effect to shape your noise? Yes, but don’t destroy the inherent sound of the amp. Try a wha peddle to shape your noise. Don’t rock on it. Set it at any level and use it like a tone modulator… tubes eh? They rock…

  3. I love tube amps but I’m not of the opinion that they’re good for “sparkely clean”. They break up better than any pedal to my ear anyway. If you are driving a 5 watt amp with tubes, you’re liable to get some edge – which is a good thing to me – but the no toe deal sounds just like that – no tone. The guy that gave you the wah wah tip is right on in that department.

  4. If you’re just going to play in your little apartment, it should be fine.

  5. Take your guitar to the music store and plug it in and try it out. Never make a purchase based on anyones’ opinion. Your the one thats gonna use it so your opinion is the only one that really matters. By the way , I’ve played guitar for 35 years and still haven’t found a solid state amp that can match the power and musical tone of a good tube amp. Good luck to ya!

  6. Its a great amp, i bought one at the weekend, have used it for a rehearsal, and a gig , miked up at the latter. loud enough to be heard , and has enough ‘tone’ at low volumes to give you what you are looking for i reckon.
I play Harmonica through mine, and the Hi or Low inputs are very useful for changes in overdrive, break up and again ‘tone’. you can also use it to drive a seperate speaker cab, just by unplugging the internal speaker, and plugging a lead in (dont use it as a headphone socket though!!)
Bear in mind this is a class A valve amp, and even though rated at 5 watts (something that raises a smile from thoght NOT in the know) it delivers probably the solid state equivelent of about 15-20 watts….plenty of volume there, but what you are looking at here is a tone machine!
Its a lovely looking amp, light, but solid, very well made, great value…and its FUN!!!
in closing, Buy one, you will love it,
