I have a pair of 4-way KLH 1590 speakers hooked up to my a/v receiver which has powered my other 3-way speakers that were just as big just fine and I can only get sound from the large 15" driver with not even static from the other speakers. Is it possible that they all don't work or is there some other problem. I checked the wiring and the connections (on the inside of the enclosure and the back) and they are fine and there are no shorts in the wires. One of my friends suggested bi-amping but should I really need to do that if I have an a/v receiver?? Thanks in advance
Best Answer I'll bet the speakers are blown by someone abusing them (loud music for long periods). This is common and you may need to have them repaired or get new speakers. You cannot bi-amp them if the speakers are blown and you really cannot do that easily with a normal receiver. Sorry.

Best Answer There are some speakers that are configured for bi-wire or bi-amp. These speakers will have four terminal connections (two pair), one set for the woofer and one set for everything else. Normally they come with jumpers already tying the two pairs together so you can simply connect with a normal speaker wire. If the jumpers are missing then that could be the problem. If you only have two terminals (one pair) then of course the above isn't the problem. Your speakers could have an internal fuse for the upper range drivers so you need to look for that. It's also possible that at some point either the drivers themselves or something in the crossover got damaged. You can test individual drivers by pulling them out and connecting them directly to a speaker wire coming from the amplifier. Be very careful doing this however, make sure the volume is really low. Tweeters can be very easily damaged by connecting them to a speaker wire carrying full range signal. Another way to check them is to use a 1.5 volt flashlight battery and momentarily connect the battery to each speaker. It should make a "click" sound. If you get no sound on any of these speakers trying them individually then that isn't good, it will indicate that these drivers have been damaged. mk
