Question How do I use a receiver as a preamp only?
I have a great Adcom amp but my Adcom preamp is going into the shop, tomorrow. In the meantime, I have a good Marantz receiver from the 70's that doesn't have as clean of a sound as the Adcom. I'm wondering how I can use it as my preamp but leave my speakers on the Adcom amp. Can someone tell me how to attach the wires? Is this what "main out" on the Marantz is for? I described my receiver wrong. It's "Main In" and "Pre Out". I guess that means if I hook up "Pre Out" to another amp, the receiver serves only as preamp. If I put another preamp on the "Main In", the receiver serves as the amp only. Is that right? By the way...I have no problems with how many ins. All I have is a turntable, cassette and CD.
Best Answer The "Main out" is the sound channel there should be a left and right, and also there should be a "main in" also. the set-up is not much different than the newer INS we have today, just the wording has changed. What you want to do is hook everything that you can on the Marantz into the ins. then on the "Main outs" hook them up to the other ins. Hope that helped. I'm Better explaining this stuff if I'm actually there
