Okay, I am putting an 8 track player in a car "Just to be different" and I need to know which wires go where. All of the wires come out of the same hole and only two of them are labeled. Here are all the wires and the two I know. I would guess and say that the yellow is hot and all three blacks are grounds and speaker negative, but one of the black wires is fused. Question Trouble with my vintage car stereo?
OK, on eBay, I just bought this Ford Factory AM/FM 8 track player made by Motorola, and when I hooked up a power supply to it, it doesn't work right. It seems like it's not getting enough power. I think the power supply, and the motor for the 8 track player is totally shot. Since the stereo is so rare, and hard to come by, do u think it would be worth fixing, and is it possible to fix the motor and the power supply, or would I have to replace the motor and power supply? and by the way, i don't wanna see any answers like "get a CD player", or "maybe your power supply is broken" or any of that crap. My power supply is good, the 8 track i tested it with works good, it just doesn't seem to be getting any power, and the motor is very, very weak. [the belt is good too, so it's not that]. the 8 track player also doesn't change programmes, when I push the button, it just stops the motor, and the light becomes brighter. here's some advice for everyone: WHEN YOU SEE SOMETHING ON EBAY THAT SAYS "UN-TESTED", "SOLD AS IS", ETC. THAT MEANS IT'S BROKEN. Never buy anything on eBay unless it says "TESTED FULLY AND WORKS GREAT". OK, here's some clarification. I hooked up a DC power supply to the stereo, and i think the internal power supply inside the stereo is broken.
Best Answer Its been a good ten years since I serviced a Ford 8 track for a bad motor, and the motor was hard to find back then. It can be replaced without changing the power supply. The power supply has a speed adjustment pot, so you might want to turn it to see if it has any affect. Something else to check. Take the belt off and make sure the flywheel rotates freely. Could be that the bushings need to be cleaned and lubricated. As for the track change mechanism, when the change solenoid is energized, a lever is moved so as to let the spinning flywheel move the tape head mechanism. If the motor is not strong enough to drive this mechanism, it won't change tracks.
