I wanted to do the right thing and get it recycled, so the next step was to get it in my trunk (it would not fit in through the doors of my car). Next, the tv would NOT fit in the trunk. I have no other vehicle and know nobody with a truck. So, I took apart the back of the set with the hopes of being able to get the TV in to the trunk if it were in 2 pieces. To detach the 2 main tv pieces, had to cut the wires that were connecting the various parts on the picture tube side of the set to the circuit board. At one point, the small bulb thing cracked and I heard a vacuum noise. I scooted away out of instinct. No shocks and nothing else weird except for that vacuum release noise. Questions: 1. Did I expose myself to a lot lead, mercury whatever? I did not open up anything in the picture tube. The only thing that broke was the little bulby thing that sticks out. 2. Was it possible for me to get a lethal shock even though the set was unplugged for a month and outside getting rained on? 3. The set is in my trunk now. Is it safe to drive it to the recycler? Is there any chance of the set giving off fumes and my car blowing up from the exhaust? thanks - I'm worried about this. There was no other way to get that set in my trunk.
