For sale on Ebay: OnSlaughtArt Can be found here: cgi.ebay.com Nice vintage Motorola turntable. Stereophonic, Hi Fidelity tube driven. This plays from 16rpm to 78rpm records. This one is in pretty good shape, but it needs a new needle and the original speakers are missing. Any speakers that are 1/4" input will work in place of the originals. I have heard that these turntables really crank out records due to the tubes.

Motorola Turntable question of the day
Question I found an old turntable that my family gave to my husband.?
It is a 1970's Motorola Hi Fidelity Stereophonic with attached speakers. I have never been able to find anything like it on the internet, and I would like to sell it, but I don't really know how much it is worth. It works great, and is in pretty good condition on the outside as well. The serial # is low, so that amkes me believe it was a limited edition of some sort.
Best Answer The best chance you have is to offer it on eBay (or something similar) as a unique, low serial number model - I doubt that anyone is interested in the turntable just to play records..

Question 1960 Motorola "Touraine" Drexel stereo console approx. dollar value (I believe listed at 5 new)?
While shopping for a new record player at a local vintage electronics store, I came across a 1960 Motorola "Touraine" Drexel stereo console with turntable and am/fm radio. It is in great working condition with the only noticable flaw being two "dings" in the very front of the console lid (very noticable, but still in good shape overall). After research I found the original list price from 1960 to be 5. I didn't think the store owners asking price was necessarily that bad but when I was in the store he told me the original list price was 0. My problem is if he is overstating the original list price by over 0, is he doing the same with his current value? (I've decided to not say what he's asking to avoid effecting anyones view of what they may suggest it is actually worth now) Any suggestions?
Best Answer It's barely worth anything. Console stereos are basically crap. Only reason it's sellable at all is because it's tube electronics and some idiot will buy it because of that. The turntable will eat your records and no matter how "restored" they say it is, you can bet more work will need to be done soon. Many parts unobtainium. Does it really sound that great for the money? Don't be that guy... lol.

Question Will an A/V Sterio Receiver handle a Marantz turntable with the auxiliary input jack?
I have a Kenwood KRV6010 which has jacks for a CD player and one marked Phono into which I have plugged my turntable. The Kenwood receiver has died. It will not receive radio broadcasts and will not produce a sterio output. I have asked the sales persons at the closest Best Buy store if the current receivers will handle a connection with a turntable and they have said the aux. jack will not. Some of my records (comedy) are not available on CD. My only solution is to get a replacement for my reciever.
Best Answer All hope is not lost. A couple solutions I can think of: Look on ebay or on http://Craigslist.org for a used amplifier that has a phono input. Try going to some place other than Best Buy to buy your new amplifier. Some of the mid to higher priced AV Receivers from Denon (and possibly other manufacturers) have Phono inputs. http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/554.asp If you get an receiver without a phono input, you could get a pre-amp which will amplify the signal from the turntable for input into the receiver. Try a Yahoo Search for: turntable preamp http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=turntable+preamp&ei=UTF-8&fr=slv1-&x=wrt This was the first site that I found: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/DJ/Gear/Lighting/Turntables/Cartridges?sku=153918 Consider buying a new turntable with the new amplifier. Question KLH Model Twenty Replacements Parts?
I'm looking for a replacement electric cord for a KLH Model Twenty turntable. The turntable itself was purchased in 1965. I'm only looking for the wire to connect the system to an electrical outlet. Any ideas?
Best Answer Call your local radio shack. They probably stock all the parts you need. Or look up repair shops that will sell you the parts.

Question Speakers for my turntable system?
Okay last question I PROMISE. Two of four components have already been bought/shipped/etc. Turntable: Denon DP 300F w/ PHONO [BOUGHT] Cartridge: Denon DL-110 or Audio Technica AT-440MLA (haven't bought yet, going to buy today) Amp: NAD C315BEE [BOUGHT] Speakers: haven't decided yet. The reason why I haven't bought speakers yet is because I've had twenty different recs for speakers, and I honestly have no idea what to do with those twenty recs, haha. My music taste: I don't have a very diverse music taste at all. I probably will NOT ever run jazz, classical, country, or classic rock through my speakers. I'd say around 70% of the bands I listen to fall under the pop rock/pop punk/punk rock spectrum.. Fast-paced (not always but usually), simple riffs, higher mid range vocals, bass. sometimes violin in the case of Yellowcard. Some of these bands are super raw sounding, some of them have really polished production, but they're still pop punk. The remaining 30% consist of bands like Bright Eyes (acoustic folk rock), Brand New (weird mellow rock, I'd call them alternative rock), various indie rock/alternative rock bands, and maybe three or four hardcore bands. I don't want the overall sound to be identical to what I hear on CD's, instead I really want it to have its own --- color, so to speak. I don't have much space in my room, and I definitely won't be able to place the speakers more than 2 feet away from a wall (and even that's really pushing it). I won't play music at excessively loud volumes, since the apartment isn't completely soundproof and I live on the third floor. Recommendations I've gotten that are in my price range (i.e. no Thiel, Vandersteen, etc. even though they're probably really nice speakers) Boston Acoustics A26 Energy CB-20 or CB-10 Polk Monitor 50 Infinity Primus P252 Cambridge Soundworks Model 6 PSB speakers KLH 6 or 17 Advent Large Loudspeaker with walnut cabinets Wharfdale Pacific EVo 30 Wharfdale Diamond 10.1 Wharfdale Diamond 9.6 Pioneer SP-BS41-LR Sony SSF 7000 I'd appreciate any help even narrowing down this list to three or four, because I simply can't work with all of these, haha. I'm flexible budget-wise (nothing over 0-400), I'm more concerned about the size of the speakers, placement issues, overall sound/compatibility with the rest of my system and my music taste, etc., etc. THANK YOU :D By the way, unless the speakers are really really outstanding for their price. I'm very iffy about under 0 speakers. VERY, VERY IFFY, haha. So far I'm leaning towards the Wharfdale simply because I've gotten three recs for them total on two different websites, but that's just an unfounded bias XD I'm in the US, don't know why I'm on the UK Y!A, haha @Kevin L can Vandersteens be placed near a wall? If so, I'll definitely get them, that was pretty much my only concern next to price but the 1C's seem to be in my price range.
Best Answer Get the Vandersteen 1C's new or older models used if you cant spend that much. You can find them used on Audiogon fairly often. Trust me you'll love them, all the others your looking at are low end in comparison. Thiels are good too but the Vandersteens for the type of music you listen to would be a much better choice. You can thank me later Edit: As with all speakers speaker placement makes a huge difference in the overal frequency responce and especially bass responce. Being that they are two way transmission line design will have good bass for a two way, they are easy to drive, do not present a difficult load for the amplifier to drive, just about anything can drive them and they easy to place in a room, so yes they almost the perfect budget loudspeaker. No worries with placement. Kevin 40 years high end audio video specialist

Grundig Turntable question of the day
Question How much does it cost to to fix a console radio?
I have a Grundig Majestic console radio/turntable from the 1950s that I'd like to have professionally restored. Does anyone have experience as a customer or restoration professional who can tell me how much it might cost to give the unit a full overhaul? Almost nothing in it works.
Best Answer Antique radios in general are not cheap to repair. It depends on what exactly is wrong with it, how much needs to be replaced, etc. I personally feel restoring them is worth while, but don't look for it to under several hundred.

Question Who to seek for diagnosing & repairing vintage stereo unit's sound?
2 months ago I inherited Grundig Fleetwood Stereo system, made sometime around the early to mid 1960s in Germany, from my Great Grandmother who passed away in December. It has an AM/FM radio, a turntable for 78s, 45s, & 33s, as well as many sound preset buttons (including an option for stereo sound), and the speakers line the bottom portion of the unit. The physical unit itself is in amazing condition and has not been used in the last 25+ years for anything other than a table/decoration piece. I was amazed to see that the radio still works on the stereo, producing very clear reception. However, the sound fades in and out during play; it starts off strong, clear, and loud, then slowly fades out, only to slowly reach its original volume again after several seconds. We have not be successful in getting the turntable to work, but I am more concerned with sound. Who do you think I should seek to look into this problem for me, and potentially repair it so the stereo can be enjoyed again.
Best Answer Any decent audio repair shop should be able to help you. If the unit hasn't been on for over 25 years some of the capacitors may have dried out or the electrolytic may have deformed. It's probably a tube unit and some of the tubes could be showing their age. Switch contacts could have oxidized over the years and need cleaning. The turntable has rubber drive parts that have probably deteriorated.

Sorry I've never worked with turntables and amps and all this stuff before. Can you help me please?
Best Answer Yes, that will work... A turntable puts out a "phono" output... You're correct in using a pre-amp with it...This changes the signal into "line" level and matched all impedances... The speakers you mentioned are self powered, so no additional equipment is needed... The red and white (RCA) cables will be used to feed the signal from the turntable to the pre-amp, then from the pre-amp to the speakers... Happy listening...

Question Do HH Scott speakers have something built in to them to protect them from damage?
What does controlled impedance mean?
Best Answer Ok, here is how it works. Speakers have a nominal impedance, usually of 8 ohms. Some speakers are 6 ohms, some are 4 ohms. The closer to zero - the closer to a short-circuit you are. The closer to zero - the more current comes out of the amp and it can over-heat and become damaged. An 8 ohm speaker .. is NOT 8 ohms all the time. This is just an average. The real impedance swings from about 3-30 ohms depending on what frequencies are being played at any instant. (This is basic electronics and applies to all normal speakers with cone-drivers). I dont know about "HH Scott" but if they are claiming "controlled impedance" - it probably means they have some circuit to prevent lots of bass from dropping the impedance into the 1,2,3 ohm range.

Question I just bought a pair of vintage Sony speakers?
they have woofers and tweeters they are 200 watts Model # SSU541AV Are they compatible with a 200 watt Kenwood receiver from 2001? The speakers are huge stand up real tall have them hooked up right now sound awesome
Best Answer This sounds like a good match up. You want to try not to blow the hell out of the place with them. Looks at the woofers. There might be a rolled foam rubber edging around the speaker cone. Don't touch it. Look and see if it is in good condition. If there are cracks and tears then you need to have them refoamed. Do not try it yourself. It usually does not cost much and maybe it's already been done. Here's some general information for you. You have a 200 watt amp. that is a lot of power. One watt of music is actually pretty loud. To get twice as loud, you need ten times more power; ten watts. 100 watts is twice as loud as that. By then you'll be deaf. Music volumes change so rapidly that it is almost impossible to get 10 watts of constant power. Don't worry about it. You want to make sure you NEVER drive the amp all the way. Once the amp hits maximum power it starts clipping. That is bad news for your speakers, especially the tweeters. They will get fried.
