Vintage Receivers
So, how many of you had vintage receivers back in the day? Ill bet you all remember the most popular ones The Scotts, the Sansuis, the Pioneers, the Marantzs the list goes on and on. So, what are the best vintage receivers to look for now? Well, that all depends on what you are looking for. There were so many companies back then that made so many good receivers. There was Scott, Sansui, Marantz, Pioneer, Hitachi, Kenwood, Sherwood, Harman Kardon, Radio Shack, and even Yamaha. So, truth be told, the debate on which ones are better has never really been more open, and seeing as how these receivers are very hot collectors items right now, it is reasonable to believe that everyone has their own opinions.
But maybe this is not the real question. Maybe the real question is what do you like? For example, do you remember having a Scott growing up? How was it? Did your friend have a Yamaha? How did he like it? Were they about the same, or did you notice that the tuner capabilities were any better on a particular model? Did you notice whether or not one company really got it right when it came to musical quality?

Vintage Receiver Auction Search
The debate is on, but one thing that is not debatable is that everyone is looking for these old receivers. Still, it is a great time to grab them while you can. Remember though, not to get taken advantage of. If you are buying your vintage receiver online, and you probably will, then you might want to remember a few things.
One, make sure to ask plenty of questions about the quality. Make sure you find out just how good the unit works, how the tuner works, what condition the tubes are in, and whether or not all the knobs and switches are there. Knobs can cost an arm and a leg online. This is because the manufacturers don’t make them anymore, and it can be hard to find originals.
Remember to check and see if the seller is offering a guarantee. If he is not, then you will really want to be careful. Is it worth a risk to get a good receiver? That is up to you. But you can really get burned buying items as is or items that have no guarantee. Make sure that you know what you are looking for, and make sure that you check prices to see that you are not paying too much!
Old receivers can be great item for collectors. Many people love to collect these old devices because it kind of takes them back, in a sense, to the days when they were younger. They can bring back fond memories of life, childhood, and high school. The days of listening to the receiver at night while doing homework or visiting with friends seem a lot less long ago when you are listening to your favorite vintage receiver.
